EvoRx® Feeding Guide
Discover how to safely and effectively feed EvoRx® to your snake. Follow these guidelines for optimal health and hassle-free meal times. Remember to always follow all feeding and safety instructions as displayed on the product packaging.

Preparing EvoRx®: Defrosting & Safety
RAW REPTILE FOOD – NOT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION. This product contains raw meat – use appropriate hygiene measures when handling and storing. Handle in the same way that you would any raw meat product at home but using a separate preparation area. Clean and disinfect surfaces and equipment before and after preparing raw reptile food. Always wash your hands thoroughly before and after preparing raw reptile food. Keep frozen at -18°C until ready to use, only defrost required amount. Store separately from human food. Thaw in a sealed container before serving. Do not discard thaw juice. Discard any uneaten raw reptile food as soon as reasonably practical. Do not refreeze.
Defrost fully before use. Do not defrost in warm water or a microwave. Feed using long tweezers or forceps. EvoRx should be used as a direct replacement for frozen rodents. Use EvoRx within the usual feeding regime for your reptile. Choose a weight of EvoRx that replaces the weight of your usual rodent selection as per the needs of your reptile, feed EvoRx within the same feeding frequency as your usual rodent feed. Thaw Fully
Thaw EvoRx® portions in the fridge overnight or in cool water. Ensure fully defrosted before feeding.
Room Temperature
Bring the defrosted EvoRx® parcel to room temperature before offering to your snake.
Sanitize
Ensure the feeding bowl and any utensils are thoroughly sanitized away from human food preparation areas.
Understanding Feeding Frequency & Digestion
We have also noted that the feeding frequency has lengthened between that of feeder mice and those groups fed with EvoRx®. Indeed, even gut transit time has increased.
The reduction in feeding frequency observed with EvoRx® compared to feeding farmed or wild mice can be attributed to several key factors related to the nutritional composition and energy density of the diets. EvoRx® is nutrient-rich and has a wild-like balance in its lipid and amino structure. Please see the section on lipids and aminos for more information. It is highly likely that EvoRx® has a high satiation because of its nutrient profile and bioavailability. Therefore, some snakes may feed less frequently than they did with feeder rodents. Generally, we have found this is only to be a few days.

Why Isn't My Snake Eating EvoRx®?
Within our extensive testing of EvoRx® we found a very high rate of acceptance from many snakes of over 20 species. We must, however, accept that every animal is different and that some may require a few attempts before converting from rodent prey sources to EvoRx®. Keepers should continue to feed their snake in the same way with EvoRx® as they usually do with defrosted rodents. Even this routine can form part of a snakes expected feeding process. We also accept the premise of genetic memory in snakes and habit-based feeding. Consequently, there are some animals, being individuals, that may require a little extra work to convert over to EvoRx®. Therefore, we have found a couple of useful processes that can help those rare reluctant feeders to more willingly accept EvoRx®.
‘Dipping’ Technique to Encourage Feeding
The first process we found that greatly increased feeding uptake rate was ‘dipping’, This simply means that you dip your defrosted EvoRx® feeding parcel into a bowl of room temperature water then offer again to your snake. (Please ensure the water used is discarded appropriately and the bowl is thoroughly sanitised away from human preparation areas). We found this to be the most effective method as it seems to activate scents within the food source which the snakes then more adequately perceive as being food.
Feeding Methods: Strike, Drop Feeding, and Disposal
Most snakes will strike feed with EvoRx®, however, some will prefer to drop feed (just as they would with rodents). For snakes that will usually feed overnight you can leave EvoRx® in the enclosure just as you would with rodent feeds. In the rare case of a missed feed, EvoRx® can be disposed of easily in the same way that you would usually dispose of raw meat.
Use of Traditional Feeding Techniques with EvoRx®
We also found that the strike-to-swallow conversion increased if we used usual feeding techniques that would be used with rodent feeds, i.e. holding the EvoRx® feeding parcel in long tongs and offering the food to the snake. When the snake strikes you can use the usual ‘wiggle’ of the tongs to encourage the snake to take a string grip and then go on to swallow the food.
Faster Ingestion and Nutritional Density of EvoRx®
Furthermore, we found that ingestion times, i.e. the time taken from initial strike to the feeding parcel being fully swallowed decreased when compared to defrosted rodent feeds. This is almost certainly because EvoRx® is a uniform shape, so it is easy for the snake to move the food downwards into the throat and into the body. Please remember, that EvoRx® feeding parcels are nutrient-rich, highly bioavailable and have no body cavity voids. Even if your snake finishes its meal quickly it does not mean that it requires another. EvoRx® is made within ‘weight of meat’ not animal size. If we matched the size of EvoRx® to the body length of a feeder rodent (wherein feeder rodents have large air and liquid content within the body) then the snake would be consuming the equivalent of 2-3 feeds per weight.
Using Scent Trailing for Enrichment
Scent trailing can be used to increase enrichment and improve the feeding processes if you use this within your usual care also.
